Synopsis:
Not everyone plays by the rules.
Eva Papageorgiou has it all: the popularity that always felt so elusive in high school, looks that men can’t ignore, and a boyfriend that other women covet. She’s gorgeous, powerful; she has the world at her fingertips.
And it’s all a lie.
The problem with living a lie is how easy it is to forget who you’re lying to. Eva’s time to withdraw into the shadows has expired, courtesy of Rob’s rising fame. Her only option is to hide in plain sight.
Amid all the chaos, Rob is her safe escape from it all. They continue to be stronger together than they ever could be on their own.
Until being together is what tears them apart.
Rob Falls has everything he’s ever wanted: his dream girl, a winning team, respect from everyone. He’s at the top of his game, with a Heisman nod on the horizon, and the potential to be a first-round draft pick.
And it’s all crumbling before his eyes.
The mounting pressure of being an athlete at the next level while doing all he can to protect Eva takes its toll. He doesn’t sleep enough, he worries constantly, and he’s torn wanting to be in two places at once.
Rob never imagined the day he’d have to choose between fame and love.
Sometimes life makes choices for us.
With the game and their hearts on the line, will Rob and Eva keep their secrets hidden? Or will they reveal everything to each other, to themselves, to the world…only to lose it all?

Update on SD

Amazon sent readers the “dummy” file of Second Down instead of the final formatted version. This isn’t the first time this has occurred, and it probably won’t be the last. Unfortunately, this situation makes authors look bad and puts the brunt of fixing the problem on the readers.
Anyone who purchases Second Down as of Sep. 26 will automatically be delivered the correct file. However, any reader who purchased SD on pre-order or on the release date of Sep. 25 must contact Amazon Kindle services in order to receive the proper file of the book. Unfortunately, even though Amazon consistently delivers the wrong book file to readers, they have not yet managed to correct this issue nor found a way for them to automatically update content on any Kindle device. This update must be done on a case by case basis.
Please contact Amazon to receive the book YOU paid for! Let them know you are unhappy with this issue!!! They’re not going to work harder on a solution because the authors complain; they need to hear from their paying customers and that’s you, dear readers!

Bear with me…

I have no idea how to say this, so I’m just going to do it.
Second Down has been unpublished.
No, Amazon didn’t take it down. I did.
The wonderful Beth Michele Luciano brought to my attention this morning that Amazon had published the unformatted dummy file of Second Down. (Amazon rules dictate that to offer a pre-order, an author must upload SOMETHING. There’s even a shiny little button we can press that explicitly states, “This is a draft manuscript and is not ready for release.”) Those of you who already purchased the book and opened it might have noticed that the spacing and page breaks are off, in addition to my personal author notes sprinkled throughout.
More importantly, it’s the ORIGINAL draft of the story, not the final rewritten version.
Amazon does not provide 24-hour customer support to its authors. We can only receive help Monday-Friday, from 6amPST-whenever they decide to clock out for the night.
The extremely apologetic gentleman from Amazon’s main customer service line couldn’t help me. No one in the Kindle (for readers) department could help me. Instead, they wrote up an issue ticket for the KDP agents to hopefully see when they arrive for work in the morning.
With no other way to prevent the wrong file from being purchased over the next roughly 24 hours, I had no choice but to pull the book.
If you have already purchased Second Down, Amazon will hopefully have an update for you in the next 48 hours. Until that time, I ask that you please not read it.
Orr, you know…if you want to have a good laugh and see just how drastically a novel can change from its first version, then have at it.
I cannot apologize enough for this inconvenience. I genuinely feel I’ve let so many people down.
I suppose the only silver lining in this fiasco is the hard lessons learned:
1. NEVER upload a dummy file.
2. Mayyyybe don’t do pre-orders anymore.
3. Keep breathing. Things could always be worse.
If you were planning on attending the Second Down Release Party, that will still happen. There are too many amazing authors that have agreed to come hang out to cancel it on such short notice.
If you were planning to purchase Second Down, the CORRECT version will be available. Just not today.
Thank you for your understanding and patience. I’m so very sorry for the confusion.

Perfection

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The above quote pretty much says it all. Second Down releases in 3 days. There was literally nothing left to take away. Over the course of roughly four months, what was once a 175k word manuscript of horse manure became a polished 106k word novel.
